Nordecon AS completed the road section of the Rakvere-Väike-Maarja-Vägeva-Rakke highway from kilometres 30.5 to 43.7 ahead of schedule, which significantly contributed to the traffic safety and driving comfort on the road.

"The construction contract for the Ebavere-Rakke road section was concluded last May and to date, the entire stretch measuring 13 km has got a new asphalt covering. This is one of the smoothest road sections built in Estonia this year,” said Jaanus Taro, director of road construction with Nordecon AS. “The entire water regime has also been improved with the help of new trenches; cutting off the underbrush and clearing up the vision from exit roads contributed significantly to better visibility.”

In Jaanus Taro’s words, special attention was paid to traffic safety and traffic comfort during the construction of the section and that is why along with improving the quality of the covering, underbrush and trees were also cleaned off roadsides in critical spots. “We hope that local people and road users can look beyond temporary inconveniences related to the construction, as the safety and comfort of traffic did significantly improve in this site.”

Kristjan Toome, project manager with Nordecon AS, said that the during the reconstruction of the Ebavere-Rakke road stretch a very even, 8-metre wide asphalt concrete covering was laid down. The width of the covering on the former road ranged from 6.2 to 8.4 metres. As the existing asphalt concrete covering was in very bad shape and bumpy, the track bed of the road was fixed and a new complex stabilised layer and two layers of asphalt concrete were laid. Overall, the newly constructed asphalt concrete covering stretched to 111,225 square metres and the complex stabilised layer to 128,550 square metres. New culverts and trenches were also constructed and new traffic signs put up.

The main contractor was Nordecon AS, the customer was the Road Administration and the engineer was Vealeidja OÜ. The total cost of the work was approximately €3 million exclusive of VAT.
